FDA has been significantly restricting maximum production numbers of masks and ventilators. The west's primary Media providers have been abysmal failures, lying, obfuscating, trying to place blame and spin responsibility on their political opponents and completely ignoring their professional responsibility to deliver true and accurate information to the public, they're basically just a very expensive mouthpiece for the CCP. The two biggest parties of the US government failed those of us who are US citizens for two different reasons, one of them want the populace to be as panicked as possible so they can exploit fear and desperation to drum up support against the Executive, while the executive's party was initially more concerned about the economy than about the lives of the citizenry, so their response in the first couple of months was excessively sluggish.

The only people who I think have responded even remotely well are my fellow citizens who were aware enough to stock up on basic supplies for any possible emergency months or years before this pandemic, and private industries who have taken massive steps to enhance production of vital supplies like ventilators and PPE.
