The two most important factors are the mutation rate and the asymptomatic rate. Mortality rate doesn't matter compare to those two. Once we get clear data on those two factors, we can finally make a reasonable predication and plan about how to stop the virus.

It's not practical as a home test. Firstly you would need a thermocycler with a fluorescent detector for qPCR capability which costs a ton of cash.

Covid-19 is diagnosed with Reverse transcription real time PCR, not conventional PCR. You need to extract all the nucleotides (DNA and RNA) from the sample, use a reverse transcriptase to convert the viral RNA into cDNA and only then amplify the resulting DNA.

You would also need all the components of a PCR such as primers, taq buffer, taq polymerase, dNTPs, nuclease free water.

Then you would have to know how to analyse the data ie. cq and ct values.

I wouldn't trust the normies to diagnose their own covid anon.
