Use a moderate dose of amphetamine. It is only harmful in high doses like used for recreation (≥ 50 mg). There is no gain in using very high doses for studying because the point is to make it easier to focus on study and to motivate one to study. As the dose becomes higher it is more likely to cause enough satisfaction by themselves that the person does not feel a reason to study.

In short: A person using amphetamine for functional reasons will not “fuck up” his/her brain.
