Dutch academic researchers had an antibody that, verified under lab conditions, neutered SARS-CoV-1. However, it never went through trials and never went into production, because by the time such trials could start the disease had been essentially 'conquered' and thus big-pharma no longer desired to fund it.

Well, the best layman answer I can think of is, why do you think we haven’t found a universal cure for all cancers?
