Like in Italy, where there are like 0 deaths in people below 30? Sure, young people can die and some will, but it's not widespread. The real danger was, and still is, to old and/or weakened people.

The last pandemic was H1N1 eleven years ago and the severity of it as well as measures taken against that pale in comparison to what's happening right now.

I’ve noticed most /pol/ beliefs are formed on the retard’s fallacy that if they can make a list of something or fill a .jpg with something, then it’s “a lot.” Surely they aren’t really human.

Are you retarded?

Under H1N1:
There wasn't any lockdown anywhere in the world.
People weren't quarantined unless sick.
Very few countries enacted travel bans.
Schools were closed in a few countries and some eventa banned.

Under Corona:
2/3rds of the world population under lockdown and mandatory quarantines.
Travelers mandatory quarantined for precaution.
World air travel down -60% in a month.
1.3 billion learners were out of school due to school closures in response to COVID-19. According to UNESCO monitoring, over 100 countries have implemented nationwide closures.
Most mass events, tournaments, concerts, sports and mass gatherings banned.

Furthermore, the 2009 travel bans (which again, very few countries enacted) were targeted against Mexico only, while today we are seeing global travel bans and land borders closed on a scale unprecedented in world history.

Yeah, that's the weird thing. By all the data I've seen H1N1 was much more serious and yet, of course, nobody I knew got sick from it and there was no real quarantine efforts or anything. Not sure why the global freakout over this one, honestly.

Based on reported cases H1N1 had a morality rate of 0.5% by the fourth month into the epidemic. Modeling by the CDC in 2015 concluded the mortality rate was actually 0.09%

Based on reported cases, COVID-19 has a mortality rate of 4% four months into the epidemic. Modeling estimates a mortality rate ~1%.

So if you want to base yourself on a singular criteria, COVID-19 is either four times (reported cases) to ten times (modeling) more deadly than H1N1, with the additional drawback that H1N1 had an Ro of 1.6 compared to 2.6 for COVID-19.

COVID-19 is four to ten times more deadly than H1N1 while being twice as contagious.

>COVID-19 is four to ten times more deadly than H1N1 while being twice as contagious.
*eight to ten times more deadly, actually.

It's late here.
Regadless, point stands.

According to empirical studies on actual populations COVID-19 has a much higher asymptomatic infection rate than previously modeled. When and if we can get actual hard numbers COVID-19 will be shown to have a mortality rate anywhere from 0.05 to 1 %.

Do you have a crystal ball? I'd like to know the lotto numbers.

>a mortality rate anywhere from 0.05 to 1 %
That's a range so huge that makes your prediction meaningless. 1% is an extremely high rate for a virus this contagious. 0.05% would be negligible.

The chart posted here >>11499696 makes the notion of COVID-19 being less deadly than H1N1 laughable.

Also, this chart is almost a month out of date. And the month that passed really hammered in the predictions you're stating.

COVID-19 has almost 100x the fatalities of H1N1 compared to the same part of the outbreak. And that multiplier is growing daily.
