Yes I'm an engineer, yes I use Separation of Variables to solve certain differential equations. What are you going to do about it math majors?

It's a degeneracy coming from physicists anyway

Ya sure it solves the equations so I don't give a fuck.

The ansatz method of solving ODEs and PDEs is perfectly rigorous.

This, it's fine to guess the answer if you can rigorously verify its validity and uniqueness.

what’s wrong with separation of variables

It makes mathematicians seethe, so there is nothing wrong with it. It is in fact encouraged.

I use the integrating factor.

I imagine it has something do to with it not giving correct results if used in non-continuous geometries or some shit. since most engineering is euclidean anyways - i.e. all dimensions are orthogonal - it probably doesn't really matter

>>11443218
It is an example of the Anzatz method, ergo it is valid.

I use computers to solve differential equations, if I ever need to solve them.

Why?
I am a mathematician and I am not seething...I wasn't even aware that it is controversial.

As long as when you plug your solution in it fulfills the equation you solved the problem.
