the chinese' numbers don't matter anymore. The issue is we're starting to see person to person transmission outside of china. 26 people in japan who didn't travel to wuhan, there's like 433 cases in south korea now, and now we had someone come back to canada from Iran with coronavirus. This means there's cases out there we aren't detecting.

COVID-19 affects the respiratory system, it does not affect the brain. For people to literally start dropping like flies it would have to affect the brain somehow, like a seizure or a stroke.

>Just 17 million dead
Yeah, I'm sure having approximately the same number of deaths as WWI will be completely fine. Stop panicking. Why are you panicking?

You're looking at this from the wrong perspective. ~15% of cases are classified as severe (Requiring oxygen due to low blood oxygen concentration brought on by pneumonia), and another ~5% are classified as critical (ARDS). Even if 80% of cases result in minor illness, the medical infrastructure CANNOT support 20% of all cases being some level of high severity and requiring medical attention. For people who make it to the hospital and get proper medical care, yes, the mortality rate may "only" be 5% max, but if people get turned away because every single bed is filled, hundreds of thousands of people are going to die.

We simply don't have enough beds to house everyone if 5 million people get infected and of those 1 million require hospitalization.

>> No.11411626

>>11409094
Maybe. Maybe not. This study found no correlation between asthma and increased risk of mortality. Thus far, from a retrospective paper I read recently, they found that the MuLBSTA score accurately predicted the risk of mortality among COVID-19 patients. Given that's the case, I would wager that asthmatics are at no greater risk of mortality.

You do understand disease propagation, right? Infection numbers increase roughly exponentially. Sure, we'll "only need 100K hospital beds on day X," but come day X+n, that number is going to jump to 500K, for example. Unless the rate of discharge is higher than intake, the medical system will become overwhelmed. This is what happened in Wuhan and why they needed to build a hospital in a week. It's why they're converting stadiums into disease wards. It's why they're going to build 19 more pre-fab hospitals. The current medical infrastructure CANNOT continuously take in an exponentially increasing number of patients.

Eh, it's not much better in the oh so organized North either. In the Netherlands we've had airports taking ZERO precautions (not even fucking measuring temperatures) because "there are no direct flights to Wuhan". Great, but there are direct flights to Beijing, Shanghai and other cities where the virus has already popped up. At least some private airlines like KLM decided to no longer fly to China, but that doesn't reflect on our government in the slightest.

And than there's the fact that our country's equivalent of the CDC switched from "the odds of COVID-19 showing up in the Netherlands are minimal" to "We're totally prepared for COVID-19 showing up". I think of Dr. Campbell and his criticism of the NHS for having equivalent statements: during a regular flu season most hospitals are already stretched to their limits. Can the average hospital really quarantine 1,000 extra patients on top of that within a week? Of course they can't.

We're going to see the exact same shit as in China: stadiums being turned into quarantine camps, the army being deployed and emergency hospitals of shoddy quality being built. All because the WHO doesn't want to acknowledge that this is already a quarantine because Xi's dick tastes so good.

>Virus X type B infects the body
>The antibodies made against type A are enough to detect type B, but not enough to destroy it
>Therefore reinfection is actually easier

What this would imply is that COVID-19, like Dengue Fever before it, has at some point evolved to have two separate types. I don't think reinfection has been confirmed scientifically, but it's a very possible scenario.
