Why don't humans have opposable toes? Did our ancestors have them, and if so, so why did they disappear? Does it make a difference in speed?

We stopped climbing in trees, so we didn't need the dexterity any more.

I'd assume that it's easier to get injured, than our current foot design. But I'm not sure about that part.

our ancestors did not have them. the reason we don't have them is because we need to walk, and normal toes are better for walking.

the real question is why we don't have prehensile tails (pic related). it would be fucking chill to just have a bar in my office to hang from instead of a stupid chair

we need our feet the way they are for endurance running nigga. we survived because our feet mutated for that and we just outperformed the other niggas that has opposable toes. or something

Tail and feet is the same thing, feature that's not needed and gets in the way of the lifestyle slowly vanishes as people with less pronounced features dominate over the more pronounced. Pretty sure tails went out of fashion before feet too since large apes in general don't have them and it's simply inpractical to try to use a tail to manouver a large body.

I think evolution is a bit more nuanced than that

Honestly seems pretty cool to be able to grab and hold shit with your feet, even use tools with them. Sometimes i can grip or grab stuff with my right foot but its pretty clumsy.

Youre right, im no biologist. But ill try. Wouldnt it only disappear as a result of them being disadvantageous for survival, whether it means being less attractive to a mate, taking too many resources that could go to other things, or literally being a hindrance in survivial?

what do you think "dominate over" means

endurance running nigga, value what has propelled us ahead of the rest of the sub-human animals

By that i thought you meant these features just disappeared from lack of use.
