Does it make you predisposed to stupidity? Although I enjoy the momentary release of acting like a caveman and listening to violent lyrics of disfunctional members of society and see how they kill eachother on Twitter I don't feel that it has a permanent effect on me. What do you fags think?

>> No.11404972

No, it’s just music. If you’re young and impressionable it may change your idea of “cool”, but it won’t make you dumb

>> No.11404990

>>11404972
Yeah that's what I was thinking, if you are young and vulnerable you might want to imitate your idols but I think it's just that, probably won't have any major psychological effects on you if you are mature enough.

>> No.11405005

It doesn't't ruin your thinking skills but it limits your English vocabulary. Especially when trying to talk the Drill slang. Also the grammar is really off and it messed me up big time for a non-native speaker.

>“We kept him around us and, thankfully, he listens to rap music,” Perkins said. “That’s how we communicated with him. That was a mutual language. … He listened to 21 Savage and Drake. He knew what they were saying. We had to say, ‘Rui, this is what they actually mean.’ Now he speaks better English than me.”

Are you black? Trap or drill is the most retarded black music. Music itself doesnt make anyone stupid (though it can affect productivity) but anyone who choses to listen to drill are most likely low iq

Nah. I've been listening to death metal and grindcore for years, and not once have I ever murdered someone, fucked, and then cannibalized their corpse. I've never even been in a fight, and frankly I don't like confrontation.

People try to relate music taste and intelligence so they can feel superior but there's really nothing to it other than the natural tendency of the brain to rationlise its experiences. The experience of a song is totally subjective and heavily influenced by culture and personal experiences, so what you listen to has much more to do with that than smarts.

You can talk about more complex music being more theoretically challenging or requiring more skill to create, but that doesn't make the act of listening any more demanding. Greater appreciation of a complex song could require greater knowledge of the musical traditions being followed/challenged by the song, an understanding of the creators social context, or an understanding of the technical ability of the creator. But,
1: None of these things needs a brain with lots of logical ability
2: None of these things guarantee that you'll actually like the music.
3: They're not at all necessary to like the music.
A totally fucked up song that requires a lifetime of theoretical knowledge to fully understand can be enjoyed by someone who has never played an instrument and has zero theoretical understanding; as long as it sounds good to their ears that's enough.

Rap gets a lot of unjustified hate. I'm not saying that all of it is racism (obviously it's not), if you don't like it then that's fine. But definitely some of it is just racists wanting to feel superior by discrediting black culture. Pop is another common target of contrarians with a chip on their shoulder.

The only real superior stance is to try to enjoy as many genres/traditions as possible, all you'll end up doing is enlarging how many pleasurable experiences you get to have in your life.
