let's try to have a good thread about physics. in particular, let's discuss quantum gravity.
- is gravity emergent or fundamental?
- do loop quantum gravity people have a point about how string theory is flawed because it is not background independent?
- or is Ed Witten right that gravity actually is emergent from string theory and that a proper holographic formulation of M-theory would be manifestly background-independent?

aren't they both just meme theories at this point anyway?

no, string theory and loop quantum gravity are still the currently best options for creating theories that can reconcile quantum mechanics with relativity, the two pillars of modern physics

gravity is an emergent property from the correct specification of M-theory. Which Calabi-yau gives rise to this? I have no idea

reminder: in M-theory we are 11 dimensional so the relevant manifolds are G2 manifolds, not calabi-yau manifolds

Nope. Gravity is am emergent property from the entanglement of non-commutative string states, or equivalently flux-twisted FQHE states
