/sci/ducks, I'm curious.

The protist pictured is called a Euglena. It is an animal cell in all aspects but one: It has chloroplasts, which obviously allow photosynthesis.

My question is, how did the Euglena evolve to possess qualities of both animal cells and plant cells?

>> No.1137438

TREE FUCKING.

>> No.1137437

It's a mystery, that's why there was so much controversy over it's classification.

Do your own research next time, you fucking idiot.

What the fuck is a "/sci/duck"? If you're referencing Pokemon, then prepare to get the shit kicked out of your asshole because everyone on /sci/ knows that Pokemon is for queer little retards.

Dude, did you actually draw that picture? Becuase that's really, really, pathetically sad. Pokemon is for retards, and doesn't belong on this board.

HOW THE HELL DID THIS FUCKER EVOLVE GODDAMN

>> No.1137507

Knowbody nos.

>> No.1137520

I was under the impression that it did not generate the chloroplasts itself, but it assimilated them from other organisms and incorporated them into itself, but I could be thinking of another organism.

What's with the /sci/duck hate? It's always been our official title, the /sci/ equivalent of /b/tard. You newfags need to get over yourselves.

Pokemon isn't even childish. The in-depth part of the game is far too complicated for a child to grasp, with things to consider like EVs, breeding, and the like.

It was never official. It only caught on to a couple of gay guys. I like psyducks too, but /sci/ducks pisses me off. There were always better titles like /sci/chos and whatnot.

>> No.1137537

it is a protist, therefore it may or may not contain the plant/animal specific cellular organelle.
it is really just that the Euglena found that it was advantagious to have characteristics of both platns and animals.

Naw, /sci/chos doesn't have the awesome mascot, and since 4chan is technically an imageboard for Japanese culture /sci/duck makes more sense.

Well, it's hypothesized that human mitochondria are bacteria that our ancient cells ate and decided "Hey, this stuff makes energy for us, let's keep it around!" Maybe Euglena did the same thing with photosynthetic prey animals; ate them and kept their chloroplasts.
