Today I slept more than usual. I woke up, but before getting up I set an alarm 1 hour later to snooze. During that 1 hour, I didn't completely fell asleep. I was aware that I'm awake, and had more or less conscious-like thought process. What was unusual, however, was my amazing ability to bring images into my head. When I'm completely awake, I can visualize but I'm not able to get into a complete state of visualization, in which I'm not aware of my actual eye's vision and only focus on the imagination, and the images themselves that I conjure up are blurry, have little detail.
In contrast, during the hour that I was snoozing, I could pretty much conjure up any image I wanted, and it seemed as real as if I was seeing it with my own eyes: high resolution, high detail. I was holding a magazine with pictures of women's faces on it (not pornographic or anything) and I remember going page by page and observing each woman's face. One woman had an especially large nose. Now the curious thing is that during this state I was thinking consciously and I thought in words "wow it's amazing that I'm not asleep and can bring such vivid images to my mind".
So I guess my question is, why do we lose this ability when we completely wake up? More importantly, is there any way to increase the vividness of my imagination in waking hours? I know I have the ability, yet I don't know how to control it.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Spare room. Sleep defragments memory so brain apps can all run smoothly whichever you throw at it. Upgrades will be awesome. I recommend Tesla's Mars division. Those humanoid bioautomatons surpass humans by orders of magnitude. At least since we disintegrated China.
