Hey /sci/

Who else just likes to ponder how huge and awesome the universe is?

Earth is pretty sweet, but I am sad I cant just surf the cosmos and know the near infinite space that our universe offers.

Pic related, my face when I realize how big our observable universe is.

>> No.1134015

sometimes I wish I could be immortal just so I could see all of the advancements in space exploration

>> No.1134037

>>1134015

Same, but then I have to be there at the heat death of the universe ;__;

>> No.1134044

I think it's amazing how much we've actually figured out about it, and that the chance of any of it actually being verified in my lifetime is nil.

But I think all physics is awesome, that's why I studied it.

We are lucky to be able to see new doors in our understanding of physics opening.

I'm sad though that I'll be long dead before we truly understand where they lead to.

i fucking love doing it and do it almost daily.... but then I get depressed :(

I'm okay with this.

>> No.1134994

I feel the exact same way.

I wish that I could choose when I die so that I'll have time to see more than just this shitty corner of the universe.

sigh...

Has /sci/ seen this? Is this oldnews?

Has /sci/ even been around long enough for it to have oldnews?

my face when i try to imagine that the universe is not infinite

>> No.1136837

The universe is estimated to have an 800YM large radius.

>> No.1136847

guys i have a question. i am not a /sci/fag really so it might be a bit dumb.

ehm, my question is, is universe endless? if so how can that be? it doesn't sound so realistic to me (i am not saying its expanding into what, i know that deal a bit)

>> No.1136859

>>1136847
It's not infinite, nothing is.
But it's growing. And it will never stop until the end of the universe (eg. Big Rip/Crunch).

What the hell is a YM? All I could think of is You Mad?, lol.

so universe has an end but no space or time exists behind it, right?

YM is Yottameter.
One YM = 1,057*10^8 Lightyears

We live inside a fourth dimension.
What's outside of this universe is the fourth dimension.
Mind blown

>> No.1136919

>>1136894

thanks dude i got the idea now. but doesn't that mean there are infinite number of dimensions since out of (x)th will be (x+1)th? i heard there only was 11.

>> No.1136961

>>1136919
Noobs around the world define other dimensions as non-spacial dimensions, eg. some people defines the fourth dimension as time, while in face time only has two directions, just as the first dimension. Even though we only travel forward in time, elements can travel backwards in time, or some shit.

>>1136961
also that post about 4th dimension made me think that 3rd dimension is infinite within itself but there are things out of 3rd dimensional universe. another guy above mentioned the radius of universe so how can that be?

Had all these thoughts when i was just 8-10

Now I just get drunk instead. Life is simpler then, no sadness :)

space is infinite, matter is finit, therefore energy is finite...
however due to the curled up 7 dimensions of string theory, there must be billions of tonnes of matter which we cannot detect because of our scale.

>> No.1137384

The 4th dimension is apples
