I have an AA in math from community college. Does that mean anything?

You both have teaching math as your only career prospect. Should've done something useful like computer science instead.

Any job that just requires "a college degree".

Maybe you can use your degree to calculate advanced calculations, such as how many boogers you ate over the span of your day at your fast-food job

When you put it that way, majoring in math doesn’t seem like a terrible idea.

A BA / BS in math qualifies you for
>entry level software jobs provided you have personal projects, experience, and at least one data structures class. Note that it usually isn’t quite as good as what CS majors get, and neither are quite as good as what math/CS double majors get
>grad school for most stem topics of your choice
It’s literally the degree you set for your foundation. Math / CS double with a good CS program (which is usually around schools with good math programs) imo is one of the strongest degrees out there, especially when you don’t skimp out on topology, analysis, measure, continuous phenomena, etc..

But where in your mind did you think just a BA or BS in math would actually get you in the industry? Dude the degree has little weight alone until you either commit to a PhD in mathematical sciences (math, CS, physics, stat) or double major with a degree where you can boast “skills.” The CS side of my degree gave me a lot of bragging rights for internships, even though I focused heavily on TCS, because just listing data structures, architecture, systems, OS design, distributed, and graphics design / microcontrollers alone puts you in the market.
