How do we know the really high level theoretical physics like the big bang theory, string theory, theory of relativity, anything about black holes, etc. aren't just a bunch of made up nonsense from a secret society of Platoists that know the actual truth of the universe?

It seems like the amount of people that are actually smart enough to be able to actually do the math and prove this stuff is so small that it seems like they could all form a tight knit secret society without anything getting out. They might keep the actual truth from us brainlets because they don't think we'd be able to handle it i.e. the shadow puppets in the cave metaphor.

All theories are outcome of other theories, principle, law, etc and alot of math. For short, all theories are prove by scientific law and math so is true IF the laws was true. (Dont argue about math, just dont). The scientific law part is the ""problem""

Law dont have prove, it just alot of experiments or observations.If you want to prove a theory wrong, you have observe a false case to a scientific law (and ruin all physic)

Nobody is telling you to believe them. But in natural science, the only way to prove them to yourself is by doing, repeating the experiments. So those kind of physics could very well be a fiasco, because it takes complex computing in black boxes to give you the numbers.
You would need to have your own lab.
But some things like electromagnetism and mechanics are pretty easily tested by yourself.

Relativity is a very easily demonstrable effect in everyday life.
The big bang theory is a simple conclusion from observations an amateur can make.
