How would the scientific community react if one day a star or a planet were to suddenly disappear out of the blue with no explanation as to why? For some reason I find the scenario frightening to think about.

This is par for the course and we've done it for so long that the frontier has moved past those sort of events, we know with a somewhat strong certainty what to expect from planetary movement and so on
