Why aren't photosynthesising animals more common?

Because photosynthesis is a shit way of getting energy, you pretty much have to be a stationary creature to get any benefit.
Even the few animals that can photosynthesize that we know of don't rely on it, it's just a handy way to stretch out meals.
The energy an animal needs just to move is huge compared to what a plant expends.

Super effective to fire type and flying type animals.

But animals get all that energy from photosynthesising plants, directly and indirectly.

Animals only move to take advantage of photosynthesizing life forms and to take advantage of those who take advantage. Plant's don't have much need to move, so they don't. Plus they need minerals and shit from the ground.

Actually double super effective, though they gain neutral resistance against poison

yeah but they eat lots of them, relatively. Like a plant will take a year building up energy stores in itself, and a non-plant will come along and munch it for a few days worth of energy at most. Herbivory and the food chain in general is dependent on eating lots of the littler guy

Whoa it's almost as if respiration is a better way to get energy for more complex life forms than photosynthesis.

Not to mention they all have to be out in the open.

You're confusing breathing with eating. Plants also breathe.

>> No.11317223

instead of photosynthesis we make vitamin D

there was no evolutionary pressure for that

Photosynthesis doesn't nourish plants. It is breathing. Breathing in higher life forms nourishes muscles and the brain.
