Complex consciousness. Being able to feel pain and think things is great for passing genes on, but has all kinds of horrible side effects, most of which are completely irrelevant for gene passage.
This is especially true for humans now that we, on average, live way past the parts of our lives where we are most reproductive.

Simpler forms of life can outnumber us by orders of magnitude while not suffering as much as us. It should have stopped there.

I didn't ask to be born, but since I was I need to try to minimize the amount of suffering I go through in this life. Trying suicide is risky due to the chance of botching it and ending even worse off.
"Achieving things" is something only humans care about. An ostrich can run faster than any human that has ever existed but it doesn't think of that as an achievement.
Bacteria have outnumbered humans and existed far longer than them, and will prolly continue existing after we are gone, and they don't think of that as an achievement.

Achievements are much like the Oscars. Some arbitrary thing humans define as a trophy and give to themselves to feel good about it.

Yeah ostriches are fucking stupid and haven’t landed on the moon.

Yeah I guess you convinced me. Humans landed on the moon, so all the unnecessary suffering caused by disease, famine, violence, mental health diseases and whatnot is justified.

Out of the 100 billion humans who have ever existed, a few stepped on the floaty rock in the sky, so it justifies every bit of unnecessary suffering ever felt by every human person.

If one day we discovered a way of removing that suffering from life I'm sure you would choose to still become ill with incurable diseases and whatnot and enjoy the hell out of cancer and that kind of stuff just because you're a tough badass. Thing is some of us are not as stupid as you.

Something about this topic makes supposedly smart people act in the stupidest ways. What part of "minimizing overall suffering" leads you to the conclusion of "HURRRRR kill a lot of people"? What part of not wishing to be born leads you to the conclusion that you may decide over the life of others? To imagine that killing people doesn't cause pain in others? Are you really that dense?

And again, if you had even the littlest bit of empathy in you, and the littlest bit of knowledge in mental health matters, you would know it's not so easy to just kill yourself for infinitely many reasons. Not the least of which living in a society that scares you constantly that you'll go to hell and suffer for eternity if you do it, despite the actual difficulties of doing it and overriding every self preservation instinct in your body. The total lack of comprehension by people like you is definitely something that doesn't help make reality any better.

You are not striving to reduce the suffering of others. You think everything is justified if at least one of us steps on a far away rock. I don't.

>> No.11316603

That’s common for incels. They like to cope by imagining they’re hyper-intelligent. Your perception of your own intelligence is very susceptible to delusion in comparison to other abilities like, say, strength, so it’s the ability unimpressive people trend towards identifying with.

>What part of "minimizing overall suffering" leads you to the conclusion of "HURRRRR kill a lot of people"?

If everyone died, the suffering in the world would decrease, so if minimizing suffering is what we “ought” to do, then killing everyone is good.

Are you ever gonna start giving serious arguments? Your current plan to minimize suffering only works if a person kills literally every single other human in the planet. You think this is something feasible? You think this wouldn't fail and leave a massive amount of people in a vastly worse suffering scenario, if it failed half way? Are you being stupid on purpose?

>You’re depressed. Your life sucks. Keep it to yourself and your therapist.
So you can deal with literally everything life may through at you, no problem, but the sight of a person talking about their suffering is enough to derail you this hard that you just have to make them disappear?

Then they are hardly horrible in a evolutionary sense. It doesn't matter how much we suffer internally since our basic instincts will ensure our species' survival. It's also a very philosophical debate. We wouldn't have this problem without qualia...but this discussion will never have a real end....so...
