(1) It's unclear what their sleep schedules were like. There's fairly little to go off of, and a lot of people exaggerate or misinterpret information.

(2) There are people who do have genetic mutations that allow them to not need as much sleep, but the probability is extremely, extremely low.

(3) You're also leaving out any possibility of "non-geniuses" who have tried out these sleep patterns without success. See >>11313323
