I only liked what could be done with science.
I only liked the end result.
I thought I could create fire breathing lizards or infinite fuel for cars.
The truth is, science was boring and the cool end results I was looking for are out of reach.
Its science fiction. Technology and education did not advance as expected.
I liked the idea not the stuff itself.

Unless you really like science because you are a freak of nature, don't study STEM. Don't learn to code. Don't fall for the pseudoscience that higgs boson bullshit is and what molecules are all about.

Study something fun. There's not really any money in STEM. It's all a meme.
Just study gender studies if you want.
I am fucking dumb for this double degree in SCIENCE.

If you want to get your sci-fi fantasies to come true then do like gene roddenberry and put them into the imagination of as many aspies around the world as you can, eventually one of them will do all the hard work for you. i own a literal working star trek communicator, i got it for free. people wonder why i don't have a better phone, like the one yotoshi abe invented in serial experiments lain, but i like the star trek one.

Totally agree, I worked a boring job before enrolling into a STEM degree I thought I'd enjoy and I've never been this miserable before because it's just so damn difficult. Seriously, just go study something you enjoy instead of something the market values or whatever. You'll find a job if you're smart anyways.

Knowing someone or being something besides white male is far more important than your major for getting a job. Every field is oversaturated.

Right, why discover the workings of this world, or design and create systems which make this world a better place...

When you can go cut hair for a living and CONSOOOOOOOM?
STEM is not for everybody Anon, it's a 112+ IQ club (for entry level) and it appears you're not in it.

Used to be super into science before I started grade school. Specifically physics/astronomy. I remember sitting down and just watching documentaries. I was too young to understand all the words but I could understand the concepts. I was in love with science. I wanted to know how everything worked and why. School killed my interest in science. First with the shit teachers that didn't know what they were teaching. My 4th grade teacher claimed light could not be affected by gravity and then a week later she told us black holes could bend light with gravity. Then I learned that scientists had to publish large papers about their work. I've always hated and still hate writing. Honestly hate writing so much that I didn't think it was withy the effort. I still love science and learning new things but not enough to chase it as a career. Might be the dumbest choice in my life but I'd rather a career I enjoy even if I'm not raking in the big bucks I'd get in STEM. Happiness has a value too, albeit hard to quantify.

Large number of papers too.
The actual work doesn't really count for anything, no one actually reads all these papers nor are they actually interested in the science behind them, but they're very impressed by the number of papers.

This is really what makes you upset and not anything else. Obviously, you should study something because you like it and can make a reasonable amount of pay doing it. You're regretting it because you found you were passionate about the popular allure and the money, but you were left in the dust.

I always knew I wanted to go into science, but school changed my perception of it. I expected physics to be boring, but it ended up being my favorite subject partly because of the math component. Chemistry however made no god damn sense. And biology, which I expected to be my favorite, turned out to be kind of boring. You get to look at an onion under a microscope and fill out punnet squares, so exciting! But physics was the most fun out of all the science classes and made me enjoy the math side that filters out the popsci fags.
