Glacier Park in Montana Set to Remove ‘Glaciers Will All Be Gone By 2020’ Signs
https://www.kpax.com/news/local-news/flathead-county/glacier-national-park-to-remove-all-glaciers-will-be-gone-by-2020-signs
GLACIER NATIONAL PARK — Glacier National Park is removing signs that state all glaciers will be melted by 2020.

Park spokeswoman Gina Kurzmen explained that since the early 2000s scientists have reflected and analyzed data stating glaciers would recede by 2020.

She told MTN News that the latest research shows shrinking, but in ways much more complex than what was predicted. Because of this, the park must update all signs around the park stating all glaciers will be melted by 2020.

The indoor and wayside exhibits have been updated throughout the park including at the Apgar, Logan Pass and St. Mary visitor centers, according to Kurzmen. She also told MTN News that an exterior panel at St. Mary still displays out-of-date language but is planned to be replaced later this year.

Kurzmen says Glacier National Park will work with the US Geological Survey to monitor the glaciers and update the remainder of the signs as necessary.

Do you realise the fucking irony that you're accusing others of being stupid while you're directing unwarranted vitriol against an anon who is pointing out factual science?

To put it in simpler terms: you're accusing others of being stupid, while you're denying established science.

Perhaps I should give you some slack for believing in crazy shit, like believing that the climate thing is one big conspiracy, if you really do have paranoid schizophrenia. But paranoid schizophrenia doesn't give you an excuse for being a complete cunt towards people with different views to your own - and you're the one who said that you hated an anon's guts for no reason other than that he's saying what science is telling us.

I have met quite a few paranoid schizophrenics, and yes they can believe in some crazy shit, but none of the ones I met were nasty people. Some were actually incredibly friendly people. Others were less in touch with reality and more disturbed - but they still weren't nasty.

Normally I would respond to posts like yours with vitriol back since that's what you're posting to other people. Perhaps I should in this case too because, like I said, paranoid schizophrenia doesn't give you an excuse to be a cunt. It can give you an excuse for believing in crazy shit, yes, but it doesn't give you an excuse for being a cunt.

In any case, I agree with what you've said about how the climate discussion should really be about SOLUTIONS, rather than the issue of whether or not manmade climate change is real. At least that's how I'm interpreting this part:
>The solution is all 8 billion people on earth growing a big fat boner for the earth and nature. argue over how the fuck to make that happen
I'm personally not going to argue that all 8 billion people need to care about the Earth. I'm not an eco warrior myself. I don't know what the right solutions to take are, or indeed whether we even need to take measures at all. But at least that's a topic that can be debated, unlike the question of whether manmade climate change is real, which is a question that seems to be pretty settled by evidence and what the world's scientists say - scientists from every country on the planet, even countries that are completely at odds with each other geopolitically.

>>11303438
China's CO2 emissions per capita are slightly less than HALF those of the United States. And for India, it's LESS THAN ONE EIGHTH as much as the United States.

So no, China and India are not the places to raise this issue. The places to raise it are the United States, Canada, Australia, the Middle East, Kazakhstan, Russia, because they're the worst offenders. And some small countries like Palau and Luxembourg do badly too.

“ Park spokeswoman Gina Kurzmen explained that since the early 2000s scientists have reflected and analyzed data stating glaciers would recede by 2020.”

They are receding, as the news source later explains. It is not asserted they would be “gone”.

“ She told MTN News that the latest research shows shrinking, but in ways much more complex than what was predicted. Because of this, the park must update all signs around the park stating all glaciers will be melted by 2020.”

Glaciers still shrinking. Earth still warming. Retards on 4Chan obsessing about predictions about when specific glaciers will recede and how much instead of engaging with the reality of an increasing global temperature over the course of the 19000s and 2000s due to human greenhouse gas emissions.

Yea, we'll just keep pretending that the media NEVER inflates or misrepresents the language of scientific reports for shock value, or that simply because the media misrepresents how something is happening that instantly means it's not actually happening at all.

Based fucking retards can't make sense of the fact that the prediction are inflated by laypeople, or that the predictions will be adjusted when people actually listen to the warning and do something about it. Acid rain was literally eating away massive swathes of forest areas and damaging buildings throughout dozens of metropolitan areas until governments and private industry starting controlling emissions and environmental damage. By 2019, unhinged, anti-intellectuals who screech that climate change is just propaganda while sucking up the propaganda of industry elites either weren't around to remember this, dismiss everything that proves them wrong as misinformation, or can't do the simple analytics and critical thinking required to come to obvious conclusions.

EE who works in the power industry here. Feel free to knee jerk against this obvious appeal to my own authority, but I don't have the time to bang out several 2k char posts.
You're wrong. Renewables are going nowhere because of the capacity factor problem. No, wide distribution and battery doesn't solve it. To get to even 50% of our energy from wind and solar would necessitate enormous storage, which makes them more expensive than nuclear by a wide margin. Wind and solar can provide for, at best, 30% of our energy. Hydro and geothermal can provide an additional 5-10%. We're left with an enormous gaping hole which is currently filled with coal, gas, liquid petroleum and nuclear. Nuke does about 10%. We could easily get that to 60% and fill the rest with renewable. Trying to get solar and wind to 50% will get you in a position similar to Germany, which is STILL 35% coal and 13% gas despite extremely high energy prices and stagnant CO2 emissions while it burdens* surrounding countries with a volatile load on their grid.

It's quite lucrative for surrounding countries actually, as peaking power costs a lot while being easy to produce from gas plants. Germany is getting shafted in cross border power agreements while they build their own gas out.

Brazil, Turkey and Iran are rounding errors on global emissions. The US, EU, China and India are the ones who need to seriously adopt it. Smaller countries can eventually lease small modular reactors if they can't afford serious nuclear infrastructure and can't be trusted to maintain their own shit.
Also: Surprise! Iran has a nuclear power plant. If you think you can stop developed nations from producing nuclear energy then you're a fucking idiot as proved by history.

Start with lambasting the opponents. Follow up with:
>Don't take that as an ad hominem either.
Right. And then continue tarring everyone you disagree with.

People like you are the reason the debate always heads for the toilet.

this thread is literally about horseshit being pushed by people supporting climate change (durr glaciers gone in 2020). How you try to turn this around to be the otherside pushing nonsense is beyond me.
>I can think of mainstream scientific consensuses I'm skeptical of
Are they pushed at every media and pop culture outlet nonstop with trillions of dollars including taxes and fees that could impact the average person being tied to them?

Bro, live for a while and you're going to witness all kinds of crazy stuff. It is nothing new. Warming may or may not be bullcrap, to some extent but it isn't happening right before your eyes like fear mongering would want you to think. It snowed where I live In California in 1997 and like never before that and never since. I was in kansas in 86 and wore shorts all winter while our teacher explained that the next ice age was coming. In 89 it snowed in July. In 92 I water skied down the street in front of my house. You can read books from any time and see that they talk of weather like there has never been.

The Wartime Ad Counil (now the Ad Council) came up with Smokey in 1944 because their contract to use Bambi for similar posters expired. They also had posters reading "careless matches aid the axis" (google it), but they wanted something for kids too. Albert Staehle painted the original Smokey, but an unknown person at the Council added the jeans.
Supposedly blue jeans were declared an essential commodity during the war, and were only sold to defense workers. Putting Smokey in jeans would have conveyed the idea that forest-fire prevention was important to national defense.
It's also probably not a coincidence that Levi Strauss & Co.'s business exploded after the war.
