Depends on how you view it. Physicists actually view it as "the equation needs this to correctly predict more stuff so we need to add a physical assumption to our model that results in this term appearing in the equation". It's not incorrect to do it, but eventually need to validate it further. Never forget that physics are just the best model we currently have to describe reality, it's not necessarily the description of reality itself.
