How come in every family theres always that one super successful person and the rest are mediocre? How is this an evolutionary advantage?

It's not every family, a substantial chunk of families are formed completely out of losers.
Super successful people are not all that common in the grand scheme of things, getting lucky twice is a rare event unless your family is not average in some way.

Biased sample, you're only choosing from families where one member is unusually successful

>racehorses winning is just luck
>no successful horse deserves/earned it
so which horse do you want to bet on anon? we'll buy two hundred foals the first group from thoroughbred lines that share pedigree with some of the greatest race horses in history and the second from some random nags, put them through the same raising and training environment then see which group wins most in a sequence of organised and adjudicated races.

Which ones are you willing to bet everything you personally own on winning?

I know where I'm putting my money...
