Did Watson and Crick fuck Franklin over or are these claims grossly exaggerated by journalists?

lol nope. even the crystallography image she is credited by those radfem journos with that inspired watson and crick to rework their model was not taken by her but by her male student.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photo_51
>Photo 51 is the nickname given to an X-ray diffraction image of crystallized DNA taken by Raymond Gosling
>James Watson was shown the photo by his collaborator, Maurice Wilkins, without Rosalind Franklin's knowledge.

Yes, PIs get credit for their students' and post-docs' work. That's how academia works.

she was a very competent technician and would have received her share of the Nobel prize had she not died of ovarian cancer shortly after the discovery
journalists overplay this for controversy's sake.

Watson & Crick literally stole her results
If something like this happened today they would get their Nobel rescinded

They didn't steal anything. She worked for them and died before getting her share of the nobel.

In special circumstances the PI shares credit with their underlings (especially the ideator of the project) But for the most part, this is true.

wrong, she didnt do shit and the photo was not even taken by her. the only reason anyone cares about her is because in attempting to draw up a fiction that women were actually secretly genius and men oppressed them, they had to find at least someone that closely resembled a genius, and what better way than a leech on the greats of Watson and Crick. Even if she was alive, anyone in their right mind who looked at her "achievements" (or lack thereof) would chuckle at the assertion that she deserved anything more than a 'fuck off faggot' for attempting to steal credit for someone else's work

Watch the film with Jeff Goldblum about DNA (no, not Jurassic Park, the other one: The Race for the Double Helix) and draw your own conclusion.

Usually the person who takes a picture of a neat thing, and the person who figures out what the neat thing is, are both credited as great discovers. Since Crick had Watson had told Franklin to use the their x-ray machine that day, she was the one who took picture from which they were able to infer the double helical structure. The grievance is that usually whomever takes the picture gets an equal accolade with whomever figures it out, but in the case of Franklin they skipped the person who took the picture. This has been corrected subsequently since Franklin is a meme now, but at the time the accolades were not awarded as per usual.

For example, the 2011 Nobel in physics went to the people who took pictures of the dark energy supernovae. No one knows why those pictures show accelerating expansion but they got the Nobel just for taking the pictutes. In the case of Franklin, she took a picture with an X in it. The role of Watson and Crick, and it was mostly Watson I think, in extrapolating by an absolute genius mastery of x-ray diffraction crystallography the double helical structure of DNA would be like the role of whoever eventually wins the Nobel for figuring out why there is dark energy. That will be some Nobel 2020 or later but Schmidt, Riess, and Perlmutter already got their prize in 2011. Franklin kind of got skipped at the time, but now everyone knows that she was the one using the x-ray machine when the original picture was taken. Even though this isn't really such a big thing since she was just doing what Watson and Crick told her to do, it is normal that whoever takes the first picture gets the first award, and that didn't happen for Franklin.

Also, Riess, Perlmutter, and Schmidt took the picture and then also showed that they imply accelerating expansion, even while that remains unexplained. For Franklin, the extend of her analysis was to take the picture to Watson ad Crick and tell them that it was weird. However, usually taking a pic is enough.
