Hey Wildberger, love your videos, but I have a problem. I am looking at the structural integrity of a design handed to me by an architect.

I have a cantilever W10x22 beam 10 feet long subjected to a constant distributed load of 500 lbs/ft. I know from a table that the modulus of elasticity of the cold rolled steel is 27 million pounds per square inch.

Q: Using RATIONAL CALCULUS, how can determine the deflection at the free end of the beam? I should be able to determine from the answer given. My textbook suggests to integrate the load over the length, but clearly this is non-rigorous nonsense.
