Redpill me on how american universities choose their PhD applicants. It seem really weird to me that a liberal arts major or something can get accepted into neurosciences or math PhD programs. You say that it's due to nepotism or affirmative actions, but I still don't understand. Even in my shithole country you have to meet certain qualifications (like a degree in a related field and/or achieving a good score on a written exam) to be accepted into gradschool. Even if you suck the department's head's dick, he can't let you in without having the minimum qualifications. So it's really odd to me how it can happen on prestigious american universities.

Honestly, our system has relied more on nepotism than anything else for many centuries now, so I don't see that changing. Academia itself has been guilty of this for it's entirety. I think that scholarly credentials will slowly start to mean less and less in hiring practices. We're already seeing that be the case.

We will also continue to see much more immigration in the West as our progressive leaders replace us with cheap laborers. This will further drive down the importance of academia as the qualifications for entry to universities will continue to erode to appease the immigrants.
