realistically i think that if neanderthals had never gone extinct, they would just be considered another race of humans. the offspring between modern humans and neanderthals are fertile after all.
realistically, i think humanity should probably be classified into four distinct racial groups -- caucasians, africans, asians, and aboriginals. if neanderthals were alive, they'd be the fifth group.

i think the idea is that if an animal can communicate with humans (presumably using language) then they deserve a seat in the UN, and then the UN would decide.

this argument arose back in the 70s or so when some people thought we could teach dolphins to talk. i think it also arose with chimps and gorillas too. everybody was saying "oh shit if they start being able to talk, we need to give them a seat on the UN". boomers had it all figured out didn't they
