Is your math teacher so based that they make brainlets cry /sci/?

Seems more like a bad teacher but depends on the goal of the class / level.

was he saying that tan^-1 =/= 1/tan? or that the derivative of tan^-1 =/= 1/tan?

The inverse function notation is overloaded with the multiplicative inverse notation, which is a bit retarded. Regardless, only smoothbrains struggle with standard notation to the point of it interfering with their ability to solve problems.

We had a professor like that and he particularly enjoyed torturing girls in our class indirectly. He got kicked out few years afterwards because it turned out that he was stalking girls after class and fucked one lmao.

Well the notation is dumb. Any self-respecting math teacher would indicate wether they mean tan^-1(x) or arctan(x)

It's a notation that can either interpreted as inverse tangent (arctan) or the literal notation 1/tan(x). As tan^2(x) equals tan(x)^2, tan^-1(x) should equal tan(x)^-1=1/tan(x)

>> No.11126170

Ya its just a dick move to not be explicit. Arc notation exists for a reason

>It was me
>my table mates who got 68, 89, 75 look at me
>fuck
now they won't stop asking for my fucking help. Never reveal your power level bros.
your teacher sounds based as fuck I had a prof like him before. My prof would show the highest and the lowest grade and the average including grades above 70 and the average of all the grades. He would point to the grades with 50s and say, "this isn't looking well for whoever these are"
fucking awesome.
>>11126040
bro it is so simple when the inverse notation is over a function rather than a variable it is saying it's inverse. When the same thing is used on a variable it's saying it has the power of -1
how could smooth brains fuck that up?
if they were asking for 1/tanx they would obviously put the -1 on the outside and probably use parentheses (tan(x))^(-1).
this just shows that they don't do their homework otherwise that would be trivially understood back in trig
>>11126114
arctan(x) is based.

I asked the prof why he dicked me in the ass over demonstrating my U substitution (I would have gotten 100% otherwise), but then he complimented me on getting to highest grade in the class.
bros, this is a calc related question.
There is this really cute girl in my calc 2 class (same class I was just talking about), she is tall, skinny, and has brown hair. I really what to talk to her but she sits on the other side of the room.
The reason I do really good is because I already know calculus, but I think she is really smart because she is the only person that finishes right after me, except I usually spend time reviewing what I've done and tend to be almost the last person to turn my work in.
I'll sometimes stare at her in class, and she's never noticed. I don't want to give off any rapey vibes, I'm the biggest dude in my class because I used to play foot ball in high school. I'm 6 foot and probably over 200 pounds of beef.
I'm a virgin too. My dick is 8 inches but it's super fucking curved. I don't have a lot of confidence with girls.
what do bros?

sin^-1 x = arctan x
sin^2 x = (sin x) * (sin x)

It's retarded but you just have to learn it.

I am ok with being a virgin, I practice asceticism. But she seems really smart and I need to gauge whether she will be a good wife to bear my child, who'll be a math god.
My academics are fine, I jerk off once a week for health, and do plenty of autodidactic study. I don't understand your advice to give up my academic career? elaborate, will you?

I think it happened a year before I met him and I only heard about, but one of my professors Predrag handed back a upper division physics test with a McDonald's application stapled to each one and he told them that that would be a better career path for them. Pretty based. If I ever did something like that, then I would get fired, sued for harassment, and found guilty of aggravated sodomy on a child but Predrag got away with it.

Being confused by ambiguous notation is not the fault of the student. It might seem "obvious" given the context, but only after practicing this stuff for a while you come to realize that ever referring to \tan^{-1} as the reciprocal of tan is confusing. The whole point of taking a class, especially one as elementary as calc, is that these students have likely never encountered such ambiguity (that mattered) before.

Point is, teacher is a dick, and a statement like that is one step away from all the fucking memes that use "÷". The student was wrong and they need to learn from it, yes, but such a snide comment for an honestly understandable mistake is uncalled for.

Also, what quadrants is this nigger using? If you don't specify atan2 notation you may come up with the wrong sign. So fuck him, I know that has nothing to do with the rote memorization that is calc 1, but that just further highlights the ambiguity of the notation.

Georgia Tech. One time in Predrag's class, the topic of gefilte fish came up. Though I like it, I don't like how it looks. I made a comment, "It looks so gross!" Predrag said, "Woah, woah! Hey now. It's getting a little anti-Semitic in here."

Predrag also once told that me when he was much younger he was working on a very difficult problem which after some period of years he discovered the problem was exactly equal to the Riemann hypothesis. He said to the class, "So if you ever find that your research has brought you to a place where you're trying to prove RH, my advice to you is to change research directions." Glad I didn't take his advice!

Predrag is also the one who first explained to me how Feynman generalized the classical action to the quantum theory. He did it in about two minutes as an irrelevant aside during a lecture about something else. I've never see it explained anywhere as well as he did in those two minutes. Smart man! This is one of the reasons why I say there is no substitute for lectures from genuine subject matter experts: the stuff they tell you that isn't in the book is priceless.

Grab her body with your big meaty hands and fuck her in front of the class.

If anything, you can pretend to not know something and ask for her help, act like you normally would with your peers (unless you act autistic, then don't). Ask her for her number to "message her again if you don't know something", then try to transition into conversations.

I had a teacher like this in middle school Algebra 1

After the midterm exam he read everyone's exam scores in alphabetical order in front of the class and would call everyone who made a D or lower a dummy. A lot of girls started crying. I don't know what would possess him to be that mean to children.
