Does doing a master's mean you are a sub-130 IQ normalfag?
Not saying this as a shitpost, I don't understand how master's and Ph.D are worked, but I've heard you can go straight for a Ph.D if you're smart.

Paying for a MS is for retards
Getting paid for your PhD, getting your MS for free, then dropping out is for big brain chads (actually following through with your PhD is for smart but softspoken cucks)

It's true that you can but those cases are trivial because those PhDs always have options to cash in your credits for a masters and almost always last more on average because the undergrad can't jump straight to research and must instead pick up a bunch of classes (equivalent to a masters).

this 100%. If you want a master's, go for a PhD, do enough credit for the master's, then leave. Of course, NEVER tell them that is your plan or you wont get accepted for a funded PhD.

PhD if you want to teach or do research.

Masters if you want to apply your field to real problems.

Alright, I'll bite.
Let's take a look at some semi-reliable data:
What is the average IQ of academics at various levels of attainment?
Seemingly the following:
>1–3 years of college: 105–110: WAIS-R
>College graduates: 115: WAIS-R
>MDs, JDs, and PhDs: 125: WAIS-R
So, from this, it would seem that the majority of postgraduate degrees are at least 125.
Now, let's take into consideration BSc majors and their related IQs:

Data presented by "Educational Testing Service".
As such, from this data, I would speculate that those in engineering fields, mathematical sciences, and physics, who also have a postgraduate education would cluster toward the top-end of the scale in terms of postgraduate IQ.
So, the answer to your question is:
Well that depends, hard science postgraduates often have a normie to, above normie IQ, whereas soft science and liberal arts postgraduates have a normie, to below normie IQ.

I'm getting paid for my MS, does that count?

In America, yes, there are almost no good reasons to ever do a Master's.
Anywhere else in the world (meaning Canada/Europe, I don't know how the Asian system works), skipping your Master's is quite unusual. Even mega brainchads rarely do it.

>do PhD
>become a $50k postdoc slaving away or get lucky and become a professor who is a glorified manager who answers emails and meets with retards all day

>do master's
>get any job in industry you want, $80k+ starting
>challenging, fun problems to solve
>teach high school when you retire early

The choice is easy.

If you get a MS in physics, it means you started a PhD in physics but didn't finish it. It is known.

Over here you can't sign up for a PhD programme without a Master's

In Canada you just have to meet with a committee and state your case. You have to be able to argue there's nothing you can gain (knowledge, experience) from doing your masters. I have a friend that skipped their masters with a <2.7 GPA
