Bill Nye is a failed engineer who barely understands the concepts he's trying to explain.

Sagan was a scientist first and a "communicator," second; while Tyson is basically a communicator first and a scientist second.

Sagan also just had this boundless enthusiasm and wonder for space, you could really tell how much he was in love with it; while Tyson seems worn out and basically just doing his thing for money at this point.

I think you're too hard on Bill Nye -- his old show demonstrated basic scientific concepts to young children in a clear and effective way. And yeah, he's no astrophysicist and he ought to know that . But his career reboot has the same basic problem that characterizes Tyson's career -- it is his career. Everything's about money. If he thinks the project he's working on is bad or that he's unqualified for an interview he's giving he can't just turn it down -- maybe if he did the phone the phone would just stop ringing.

The problem with these science popularizers is pretty much that they never admit when something is outside of their expertise (even in the broad field, i.e. physics). Any real scientist doing current research, if asked about some other subset of their field, will almost always say "well here's the basics but beyond that I don't really know so I can't answer your question, go ask [colleague] who's an expert in this stuff."
The number of times all these fuckers have misrepresented my specialty of physics pisses me off, and I only hear about what they say if somebody else happens to bring it to my attention, so who knows how often they do it. It's just so oversensationalized, so inaccurately explained, etc.
