Yes, they have an accent, but they don't slur every syllable together and are careful to pronounce all parts of a word.

As a result, they are more familiar with word structure. Plus, some have extremely pushy parents.

Simply put, given the lack of wealth in India means that their parents have to run them strict. An 3.7 GPA in a competitive program might land you a very nice job in North America, but in India, they wouldn't even hire you at McDonalds. India and China WILL take over, and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

The Indians who win spelling bees are almost always Brahmans, the priest caste. For generations they have had to memorize all sorts of prayers, including the thousands of names for all the various gods in Hinduism.

They just apply those skills to words when they immigrate and BAM.
