I've noticed something: mathematicians are skinny.

Also: chess grandmasters are skinny.

Discuss!

Yeah. I went to a math REU at an elite university a few years back. The other students were all sticks and they would comment on how muscular I am, even though I had a pretty average build at the time.

I think they're just very focused and don't take time to eat properly. A few of the guys said they replaced about half of their meals with onions so that's what you get I guess.

im not a mathematician but when i really focus on a problem i forget to eat. Must be worse for mathematicians because there is no distractions, just you the pen and the paper.

A UK study published in 2006 looked at historical data and tried to find links between IQ and obesity. Low IQ children were much more likely to be obese in their late 40s. Correcting for socioeconomic status mitigated the link. Adjusting for adult education basically eliminated the link.

Essentially, smart people tend to pick a healthier diet.

this research is pointless, the correlation between obesity and wealth is widely known, isn't a stretch to extrapolate that to intelligence. Not relevant to OP though because being underweight isn't healthy either.

you get tracked into what society THINKS you are going to be good at. Remember elementary teachers are mostly women and complete NPCs.
... this starts at a very young age. if you are slightly behind in body size at age 6, you just start getting less athletic practice in school yard sports. it might not seem like much but by age 10 over time the other kids might have 2 years overall more experience then you, which means you willl always be worse at sports than them which means you are even less likely to focus on it, all by age 10.

Textbook frail framed stickcel COPE

Good looking naturally muscular robust Chads tend to be high IQ. Good genetics comes in packages.

Hans "Dolph" Lundgren (born 3 November 1957)[2] is a Swedish actor, director, screenwriter, producer, and martial artist.

Lundgren received a degree in chemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in the early 1980s and a master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney in 1982. He holds the rank of 3rd dan black belt in Kyokushin karate and was European champion in 1980-81.
