3rd year in Uni as a math major and still haven't seen this shit since high school. what's the point of it

it's for real degrees you wouldn't understand

differential equations
fourier analysis

>> No.11078417

>>11078399
what? how is that even possible. what kind of shit university are you at?

It's a vector system for spergs and autists, be glad you haven't encountered it.

maybe take some real maths classes instead of finance and linear programming

these

leave engineers alone. leave them alone.

You aren't required to take complex analysis?

>> No.11079136

I just started CS 3 weeks ago and this is the first math subject we're covering. Why would they teach you this at school and then not in uni?

harmonic analysis, analytic number theory, even functional analysis, physics

And just to work in an algebraically closed field

>> No.11079190

>>11078399
Complex numbers are algebraically closed. Every polynomial of degree n has exactly n solutions. That's immensely useful for basically everything.

What's wrong with finance provided you take all the interesting pure math courses as well?

>> No.11079467

You should be doing complex analysis by now no?

Plus what's the point of anything in math? Mathematicians don't care about the applications of their language, they just like playing around with a bunch of abstract symbols with a set of axioms and definitions.

Leave engineers and phycists to figure out a use.
