he wouldn't say that. the number of strokes represents the number of unique symbols in the base. each stroke maps to one and only one stroke. the alien would say
>oooh, that makes sense. I call ( IIII ) "10" and you call ( IIIIIIIIII ) "10". thanks helpful astronaut!

Yes it can. Just stretch it x10 and then turn it 90 degrees to the right.

But the confusion arises in writing only. It has no representation in speech that makes any sense.

>> No.11074609

Not even lying.
On an old standardized test for an unnamed state testing program they gave me the question of log base 10 of 100 = x and the multiple choice answers of 10 and 2.

But both were correct.
In base 2 10^10 equals 100, and in base 10 10^2 equals 100.

So I complained, and the proctor had no idea what I was talking about...

For people that don't understand this
In decimal we have 10 numbers 0 to 9 and the "flipping point is 1 and 0 so 10 this is how much numbers we have and it's called "base 10"

in binary you count like this
0
1
10 (flipping point) someone using binary would call it "base 10"

in hex it would be
0
.
9
A
B
C
D
E
F
10 (flipping point) someone using hex would call it "base 10"

the flipping point is ALWAYS the smallest digit (1) next to the "empty" digit (0) to signify that it has rolled over the flipping point.

Therefor all bases are base 10
