You know when you charge a comb with static and wave it over tissue paper. And the tissue paper lifts up and tries to get to the comb?
That's called a potential difference.
You have put energy into the system(the comb ) creating an energy difference between the comb and the paper.

You have created an imbalance ;)

The electrons are all moved to one side of the system and are trying to get back to balance out the equilibrium.

It's the same way a capacitor works.

Now when you make a magnet. Which requires energy to align all the molecules in the same direction to create a potential different between the two ends, a north and a south pole, the semi equivalent or negative and positive.

So when the magnet is near other magnets or magnetic material, the molecules attempt to realign, to reach equilibrium ;)

It's hard to visualise magnetic fields because of how strange the are. But they are just a macroscopic version of static or any cosmic force.

They're black. I doubt they work at all.

Certain types of metals just happen to stick to other types, who knew.
I'm not a scientist and can't do basic math.

Coming to /sci/ almost guarantees he won't be talking to a scientist. It was a smart move.

it happens when something spins
the faster something spins the more magnetic it becomes
the small magnets you can buy aren't spinning very fast and are therefore not very magnetic

The friction when you statically charge the comb actually rubs the electrons from one surface to the other and the electrons build up.
