11030453 No.11030453 [Reply] [Original]

The future of humanity (Europeans only) , is on titan.

As is, with some metabolic engineering humans could breathe on titan without terraforming or oxygen through anaerobic respiration of fructose and hydrogenation of resultant co2, and exhaling methane. We would have aleo have sick orange coloured blood from the chloro-carbonyl-bis(tri phenylphosphine)-iridium blood making us able to breathe in both hydrogen environments and oxygen environments.

interesting Titan geo facts

-In general, Titan is an icy shell surrounding a liquid interior sea.
-Craters are 1% of the surface area. Most craters are at low latitudes.
-Linear dunes compose 18% of the surface area. These dunes are made up of porous organics.
-There are a number of theories as to the creation of these large (100 meter high) dunes. One is that, similar to Earth, coriolis forces sent particulates westward across the equatorial regions, which drives dune buildup.
-The largest surface feature is Xanadu, composing 14% of the surface. It is a 4,500 km wide mountainous area, possibly the remains of an ancient impact. Xanadu is the oldest surface feature on Titan, and is extremely radar-bright. It has 2-9x higher crater density than Titan average.
-Titan has stable standing liquid (methane/ethane) on its surface, and an active hydrologic cycle.
-Lakes compose 1.5% of the surface, with the three largest lakes being comparable in size to the great lakes in North America.
-Titan’s lakes are potentially stratified, with ethane sinking below the methane.

>> No.11030465

>>11030463
-Titan’s small lakes typically interact with the hydrologic system through infiltration, while the large lakes interact through evaporation. Some lakes are thought to be formed by methane rainfall; this precipitation occurs at all latitudes.
-10% of Titan’s surface lakes are empty. These empty lake features can be 150-300 meters deep.
-Large parts of Titan are dissected by fluvial river networks, which contribute to erosion on the surface.
-Cryovolcanic features are 0.6% of the surface area. These volcanoes might act as a methane source for Titan’s atmosphere.
-Featureless, low-relief, dark planes compose 14% of Titan’s surface at the mid-latitudes.
-Titan does experience seasons (taking place over a 29.5 year cycle), which are thought to influence some of the morphology of the moon, mainly adjusting the distribution of hydrocarbons by decreasing Titan’s overall insolation.
-Meteors up to a kilometer in size can be safely disintegrated by the thick atmosphere before they impact the surface!

Actually anaerobic respiration of fructose produces MORE atp per molecule than aerobic reapiration, although not as quickly as oxygen, however modification of catalytic abilities of our enzymes could produce it much much faster. And modifications to certain cell pumps could reduce energy consumption per cell up to 75% . Yes it IS absolutely possible theoretically for humans to breathe other atmospheres and survive anaerobic conditions. Numerous studies have been done on it.

that's nice sweetie, but how much energy can you actually generate with it? On earth we can generate almost unlimited energy from the temperature between the deep ocean and the warm water near the surface. But we don't really because it's impractical. Cause you're moving so much water your pipes get gunked up with filter feeding sea life.
>>11031303
we've sent only one surface probe sweetie, so we don't know that for sure.
>>11031307
Sweetie we've only sent one surface probe, so we don't know how constant the winds are or how much energy we can actually extract from them. The amount of energy you can extract from wind scales with velocity squared and only linearly increases with density. We've only measured surface wind speeds of 0.3 m/s, which seems pretty fucking low sweetie.

Heaps its literally in the air and separates itself in a stable environment. Actually we do through spectrum analysis we can do from earth. The average wind speeds ive seen in 1 m/s vs 4m/s for earth. But due to the atmosphere being MUCH thicker the amount of energy in that wind is MORE than earth. Its REAL simple SWEATIE kinetic energy is multiplied by the amount of mass. And the amount of mass per square meter of air on titan in 10 times more than earth so no i didnt pull that number out my ass SWEATIE

Its literally as easy as walking to your local lake getting a few shovels of acetylene crystals at the rim of the lake and combining it with a chemically balanced amount of hydrogen taken from the always present 20 grams of hydrogen in every square metre of air. Which is MORE than enough to produce reasonable energy. 14 grams of acetylene to every 4 grams of hydrogen, producing 311 kj of energy per molecule. This is plenty. Every square meter of air can "burn" 70 grams of acetylene

>> No.11031400

>> 20 grams of hydrogen in every square meter of air
you do realize that's a ridiculously low concentration sweetie? 20 grams in a column of air 1 square in area stretching from the bottom to the top of the atmosphere isn't much at all!
>> 311 kj of energy per molecule
ummm sweetie, you aren't going to get kilojoules of energy out of the chemical reaction of one molecule unless it's really really, really, really, really, really big. This is more energy than you'd get from converting the molecule's mass to energy.

first step should be a small stanford torus in the orbit of earth and the moon.

Use the lunar one for re-acclimating workers on the lunar surface to earth-g and to prevent or postpone the deleterious effects of fractional gravity upon the human body.

Giant solar concentrating troughs could be fabricated from lunar materials and used to create aluminum oxide booster rockets, to push prefabricated sections of an even larger Stanford torus into lunar orbit, and from there be assembled.

Not to mention prefab parts for other space ships, space tugs, landers, etc....

that way, we can live in our normal 1g environment, and be right next door to space for the easy travel.
