Do sperms have consciousness? Personalities?

>> No.11018082

>consciousness
no
>personalities
not actively, but they hold the genetics for it. but only half

>> No.11018087

>>11018082
Which half though? Is it random? Does that mean each sperm contains a random selection of half? How does sperm creation even happen?

>> No.11018088

Sperm are haploid gametes, and only hold half of the chromosomes normal chromosomes have, just like eggs. They combine to make a full set in the zygote, and are produced via meiosis in the testicles.

no, single cell organisms do not have consciousness or personalities

it's called the butterfly effect
it does not need to be a butterfly. it happens all the fucking time and it's kind of scary how much of history is the product of this effect, such as a wrong left turn resulted in two cities getting vaporized, or how a misplaced stick resulted in the Roman Empire being the ones to conquer the Mediterranean and shape world history and modern governing and determine what language you're speaking right now, or how a retard sperm edged out a different retard sperm and this thread was created

You would not exist but someone pretty similar to you would exist. I don’t think YOU could have consciousness of this similar person unless your model of consciousness is something like “I” experience a moving set of things that are very similar to each other and experience them less the more different they get.

It would not be him/her except only superficially. Maybe they would have different hair color or be bipolar maybe they would be much smarter— genes can transform your life/health, and it could be a small sequence here or there that makes the difference. The thing is that sperm that obviously has horrible mutations wouldn’t survive long enough to make it to the egg. If it is produced at all it probably dies immediately or would be out swum.

>> No.11018868

It is an interesting question. They clearly have motion and the mechanics of it seem directional. Why isn’t that enough for consciousness? Do sperm decide their specific movements? If so then consciousness also probably exists in bacteria and plants.

>> No.11018875

When most people talk about consciousness they are explicit in referring to a human mind and it’s fairly complex present activities like thinking... I don’t think this can be a consistent definition of consciousness in the first place but on my view a lot of things are more or less conscious because they display some measure of action potential and decision making. Some people don’t like this because humans are supposed to be conscious and that’s it, but I think it’s obvious animals are also, among other things.
