What demand and prosperity will there be for the field of nanotechnology over the next 40 years?

I just completed my first semester of college, and I am seriously considering this. I am highly interested in the medical field as well.

if it doesn't kill everyone, I'm sure it'll be a benevolent god.

That depends on what your definition of benevolent is.

Bump for possible contribution.

Oh there'll be demand.

But 'nanotechnology' is just a buzzword, which is being applied to a broad range of subjects. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take a program named 'nanotechnology'.

Study chemistry or solid-state physics, etc. Persue what you're interested in, instead of worrying if you can apply a 'nano' label to it or not.

OP, look into Biomedical Engineering. I know Texas A&M has specific nanotechnology courses for BME's. Tough program to get into though.
