How good are people at estimating their own IQ or intelligence?

Was there any research done on this topic?

A good rule of thumb is that if you are compelled to post frogs, it's likely very low.

Usually, smart people know that they're smart (contrary to popular belief), while the dumb don't know that they are dumb

so dumb people know their smart too?

so everyone thinks they're smart?

Research has been done, but in a generalized from. The question was how competence in X influences once self-evaluation of X. The result is the Dunning-Kruger-Effect. It predicts that incompetent people overshoot and competent people undershoot their self-assessment. Explanation: Incompetent people lack the skills to acurately measure their level of competency (because those are also the skills needed to be competent) and default to a favorable self-assessment.
This should generalize to IQ, I would bet that there is research on it.
Also keep in mind that this does not tell you anything about a given individual; we are in psychologyland here. That means that many effects just appear when you look at millions of people. (I.e. if you were to make a business abusing the Duning-Kruger-Effect, it won't work on 200 people, you would have to way increase your reach to make a reliable profit.)

Dumb people think that they're smart, smart people think that they're "above average". However, geniuses know that they're geniuses but still have some doubts from time to time.

If both smart and dumb people think they're smart, but the dumb ones both outnumber and have a higher chance of doing so. It'd be rational to assume that all people who go "me smart" are dumb.

My google ad profile thinks I’m 50 years old but I’m 25. Does that mean my IQ is 200?

I have a tested IQ of 128 (as part of ADHD diagnosis). I feel retarded sometimes, but I'm good at conceptualizing abstract concepts. I doubt myself a lot. I'd assume that most people overestimate their IQ. Humans are wishful thinkers.

>and competent people undershoot their self-assessment.
you forgot to explain this part
dunning's theory is that the task is easy for them, so they underestimate the difficulty of the task

I've also been tested for the same reason (134). Most of the time, I get this crippling anxiety that I'm wrong about whatever task I may be doing, so I don't do anything at all.

It's rational to assume you're [actually dumb].

Everyone believes they're more intelligent than average. In answer to your question, yes, this is what's called a cognitive bias (ways in which we assess information differently as it applies to ourselves vs. how it applies to everyone else) and it's been researched to death.

A good rule of thumb is knee jerk reactions to memes (and not even the correct one) because 4chan told you to cry about them indicates low IQ
>>11006933
If you're constantly questioning your own intelligence instead of walking around thinking about how smart you are all day that's a good sign
