Light travels instantaneously in a vacuum.

I'm going to test this with my vaccum cleaner brb.

As a result, particles of matter (or light) don't travel like waves in either the medium or in space. They travel straight ahead. Because matter is made of energy, photons travel instantaneously because they can only be created when matter is brought into existence, at a temperature and pressure the two will not change.

Light is "photons", in a more technical sense. Light is made of photons. Photons can be viewed as tiny units of matter, or particles – or particles and waves and everything in between. You might ask: Are the same photons moving around the Earth at the same time? No! Light does not travel with the same speed as matter because it cannot be created at the right temperature, pressure, and volume in order to be able to travel through space. Because of this, if you were to shoot a flash of light from a gun at a distance, the gun would never achieve the speed and speed difference with light as an object moving at that speed would simply cease to exist.
