As soon as humans start relying on machines to their gene enhancement, it will give and advantage to enhanced people, obviously. They are just better at everything. Eventually only gene edited humans will be left, so people who relied on these machines to be born in the first place. However, as time goes on, it will become disadvantageous to reproduce via sex, and it will become more effective to reproduce by just letting these machines print our DNA and create the next generation. At that point we are completely at the mercy of those machines, our genitals will shrivel and die because they are useless, and they themselves will become subject to selection and competition. The machines that manage to print more, better humans will be advantaged and these computer programs will compete among each other, using humans merely as a part of their phenotype, similar to how we use RNA in our process of genetic expression.Our phenotype, the machines that we made to make ourselves better, revolted in a way, and became their own thing. This was cheered on by all humans though, because it was good for us.

With genetic engineering, humans will be made to be as small, efficient, and intelligent and facially attractive as possible in order to facilitate maintaining large populations without large costs in energy or resources.
This is especially true as we start becoming a space-faring civilization, where smaller people have a supreme advantage in spacecrafts and spacetravel (astronauts aren't even allowed to be tall).
Think about it, if you could support a population of 50 million small people, who were all genius-level intelligence, for the same resources and energy as a competing country does with 20 million people, you will beat them. You will have equivalent quality but significantly higher quantity, your military capabilities will be greater, your economic and scientific output will be greater, and you'll do it all for less resources.
People will get mad at this post because it's supporting gnome-people as the master race instead of tall strong "ubermensch" or whatever, but it's true. As technology advances we make it smaller and more efficient, the human body is no exception.
