The reason why snails go so slow is that it doesn't matter to their perception because their brains alter their consciousness so that everything they perceive in the biological sense is sped up x100. What this means is that when a snail crosses the road, it actually perceives itself going really fast across the road. Relatively speaking however, our biological sense can only sense a 1:1 ratio to perception of time through the biological sense, where the ratio for a snail is 1:100 ratio. This is signified by the spiral on the snails shell.
