Can Malic acid react to any other chemical/compound.

Simulation Unit four just went offline again... it took the six of us twelve hours to get it back online the last time... I hacked into the data log file and the last user online -- Malick... Oh, he denied it of course. I... I told Bronson about it and that paranoid crank showed up here with around fourteen security men, looking for blood. But she couldn't prove that Malick actually did anything... Christ, why would anybody want to sabotage the Sim Units?

malachi was one of the kids in the children of the corn and I once lost a 200 dollar bet because i was fucking sure it was carrot top ;_;

and my friends and I made an agreement a long time ago that saying "i bet you x amount this happens" is a binding contract so I had to pay up too. fucking carrot top.

It's an organic compound, of course it can react.

Put it in strong base I reckon there's a fair chance you'd get a dehydration reaction. And then you could use it as a dienophile in a Diels-Alder reaction, I don't know man. Whatever you like. It's got acid groups on it, those can have shitloads of reactivity via acyl chlorides.

>> No.1090760

So... no?

>> No.1090767

Oh I posted this before
>>1090760
I saw this

Thanks >>1090758
I appreciate it, I'm reading it and will get back to you in a sec. Thanks

Oo, What compound's would give me a Dehydration Reaction?

I'm not reinstalling! Fuck you!
Ah... who am I kidding...

You don't need to reinstall. Just extract the emails and logs and set them to play in winamp. Best voice work and plot of any game I've played.

So this can be found in apples, grapes, and some candy right? How's it made?

>> No.1090839

Bump. FOR SCIENCE!

>> No.1090849

Also, what acids are in Sylvia?

>> No.1090877

How do you know what reacts to what?

>> No.1090881

>>1090758
Pretty much what he said. You could also make malic acid esters using alcohol and an acid.

>> No.1090886

>>1090784

Strong base should give dehydration via E1CB type reaction. Although with acid groups it'd have to be very strong base becuase they aren't that enolisable. Maybe LDA or something. It'd work better if the acid groups were first esterified.

E2 elimination is always possible via tosylation or something, I guess.

By being a chemist.

(please don't rage if my questions are stupid. I took chemistry in 10th grade in an LAUSD school.)

Can it react to a solid? If so which kind?

>> No.1090928

Malic acid is a solid.

>Can it react to a solid?

I assume you mean do a reaction that gives a solid product? It would probably crystallise if neutralised with the right base in the right solvent.

>> No.1090940

>>1090920
Dehydration will result in maleic acid and/or fumaric acid, both solids.

>> No.1090950

It is one of the most harmful compounds to your teeth so yeah.

Oh I thought it was a liquid.

So:

Malic acid + Fumaric acid = Dehydration Reaction?

>> No.1091028

Is this possible:

Take a bite from an apple -- Mix it with saliva -- Have some Malic Acid in saliva?

Anyone?

>> No.1091232

No. Fumaric acid may be one dehydration product under certain circumstances.

>>1091028

Don't know what you're asking.

>> No.1091245

>>1091232
Thanks, and I'll try to explain again.

I read that apples have Malic Acid in them, so if you take a bite from an apple will Malic Acid be in your saliva?

>> No.1091257

>>1091245

Well... yes, in as much as if you take a bite out of a pie, then your saliva will have pie in it

:/
