Solar power is pretty great for long term maintenance, but if you don't have to worry about pollution fossil fuels are ridiculously more cost effective. This is called EROI, how much energy you get back per invested joule, and the EROI of solar is just not enough to maintain a society that expands into space.
Is running out of oil and uranium before inventing non-shit fusion the great filter?

Every method of producing energy uses non-renewable resources so expansion is limited in any case.
It's probably infeasible for humans to ever leave Earth.
