>Minsky is often blamed for the fact that MIT's AI labs were always far below the quality of the other CS labs at MIT and why so many other schools were much more highly regarded in the field of AI over MIT. Calling him an AI pioneer is like calling Trump a business pioneer. He took credit for other's ideas and tanked his own organization taking it from the top to the middle. He was a much better science writer than a scientist. The only reason people believe he was a successful scientist (other than his position at MIT) was his successful books that were attractive to dreamers interested but uninvolved in the field. But those in the AI field thought he was a joke and his books were fiction. Even in death he finds a way to bring discredit to the field.

Instead the real honor falls to Frank Rosenblatt (1958), and the pioneers before him, Mculloch & Pitts (1943). Marvin Minsky was one of the few fraudulent MIT professors to be caught and called out by DARPA and forced to re-pay millions in grants that developed nothing but deceptively worded fluff publications. In that scandal, Minksy's closest associate was fired from MIT, but Minksy had garnered enough fame by then that firing him was seen as even more damaging to the reputation of MIT than keeping him. Instead, he was deposed to the Icon Media lab, where he was 'kept' in relative isolation.

Minksy was a pervert in high school. He demonstrated a willingness to use women as objects when he was a young man, resulting in a life-long feud beween Minksy and Rosenblatt when one of Minsky's victims turned out to be a friend of Rosenblatt's. This is highly summarized.

Ever since, Minsky did his best to destroy Rosenblatt. Minsky published a critique of Perceptrons in a way that was more than an attack on the idea, he used it as an attack to damage Rosenblatt personally as much as possible. As a result, Rosenblatt fell into a state of depression and took his own life.

Just a few years later Rosenblatt's Perceptrons were enhanced with the concept of a sigmoid function, leading to the explosive growth of today's modern neural networks.

Minksy and his 'associates' have done much over the years to hide Minsky's sordid past and protect his reputation.

It's time the world learns the truth about all psychopathic savants like Minsky and Epstein. Such people should never receive such hero worship or be allowed to become such free ranging monsters.
