so how legit is climate change/global warming? I really don't know much about it. Are we doomed as people say, or is it all just a big scam? Tell me the honest truth, once and for all, and I will believe you. But be honest.

>> No.10866053

it's a real problem but the people claiming to have solutions for it are just using the crisis to consolidate their power over you

they aren't even very subtle about it

so we're pretty fucked either way!

>> No.10866056

>>10866053
I remember reading something about runaway climate change, or feedback loop. If we get to that stage, there really is no solution, because it's too late, right? So these people with the solutions seems extremely naive, or as you say, just want your money.

they want your vote, they want political power over you. money isn't real, but power is real.

they're already floating the idea of having some committee approve every passenger flight. no travel unless it's for an Approved Reason, comrade. and you're gonna be eating bugs for protein; we have to cut down on meat production so only Inner Party members get beef now

next one is restricting who gets to have kids. propaganda engine for that one is already revving up. did you know that having a kid is the biggest impact on atmospheric carbon that you can have? it's science! don't you believe in science!

meanwhile the other guys want to pretend the problem isn't real when any asshole can look at a fucking thermometer. oh it's real, but you never waste a good crisis. fact that it's real means more opportunity for the will to power, not less. how could it be any other way?

>> No.10866108

>>10866056
Feedback loop does not mean runaway warning. Runaway warming on Earth is essentially impossible. Also, a carbon tax is an easily implemented solution and does not give governments any more power than they already have.

Doesn't really matter, the disincentive is enough to mitigate global warming optimally. Ideally it would be spent on nuclear and renewable development and implementation of technology and infrastructure to replace fossil fuels and subsidies for poorer consumers so that the tax is not regressive.

>How legit is global warming
To find that answer you've got to dig more about the GIEC. To keep things simple, they use statistical modelings to get forecasts. Those models are based off a "tendency" from records. In the end it is and will always be forecasts but everyone assume it's exactly what is going to happen. Also a few statisticians doubt and contradict the model used by the GIEC. But when it comes to global warming there is no room for debate which is also a big red flag about its scientifical authenticity.

I think optimally governments can impose an emissons tax, with tax breaks for companies recording negative emissions (with strict guidelines for both that include indirect emissions). This way we can both use the tax dollars to further renewable energy and carbon sequestation research, while also incentivising companies to further research in their own way.

Scam by the Club of Rome - they've been doing it for years. I'm sure we all remember the fear about fossil fuels running out, which was inspired by their 1972 report - oil supply seems to be doing fine, what a miracle!

They switched tactics to global cooling, then global warming, and now climate change. They publish many books on how to make money from climate disaster.

Because they're high level scam artists, they target children. They are involved in the manufacturing of Greta Thunberg and they support world-wide school protests, proof: https://www.clubofrome.org/2019/03/14/the-club-of-rome-supports-global-student-climate-protests/

Much easier to brainwash the kids, successfully doing so guarantees they will make money off them in the future.

It's honestly not that scary anon. We've gone from pre-industrial about 260 ppm CO2 to currently about 400 ppm CO2. That has corresponded with a roughly 0.8 degree centigrade temperature anomaly. And the thing about the temperature anomaly is that it has it has grown over time, but at logarithmic scale not exponential or even linear. Basically if what has happened continues to happen we might be at say 600 ppm CO2 early on into the next century and that will probably only be like a .6 degree further increase. And then going from 600 ppm to 800 ppm over the next century after that will only be like a .4 degree temp increase.

Well, the carbon tax would only work if there was 1 global jurisdiction.
If you implement carbon tax in 1 country and stick to it, just watch other unrestricted jurisdictions collect your ex tax payers and outcompete you into oblivion

yes this is a thing obviously to a certain extent (deforestation, ocean acidification, stripmining, microplastics, etc), but no we're not more powerful than the sun or the natural processes the planet itself is responsible for

Yeah there are also negative feedback loops. But the IPCC just disregards them or have there models turn out that they will be positive.
Case in point. Snow cover.
Nowhere in the 5 IPCC reports you'll read that it will be a negative feedback loop, cause snow will melt and less snow less solar reflection. Duhhh. Turns out, higher temps cause rainfall to increase so much that there is a massively larger region in the northern hemisphere that is snow covered. How much larger? about 1-1.5 million sq km in summer months, and over 2 million sq km in spring and early autumn.

a carbon tax is not a "solution".
it is one of many tools that can potentially help

>> No.10871795

why not just admit that a carbon tax is the only tool at your disposal, because tackling rampant development (the actual cause of emissions growth and global warming, in addition to deforestation, soil degradation, species extinction, and depletion of natural resources) is totally out of the question - probably because you and your infinite growther fascist buddies are the main beneficiaries of rampant development.
