As I was eating meat today, I realized that the only reason we humans can obtain as much meat as we want is because we have intelligence. But what if another species existed on earth, different from humans, who ate humans? Lets say Orcs. They rule the businesses and slave human beings to work for food and shelter. They also pick up underperforming humans and eat them. There is a meat market where humans are the product. Being a loser is no longer an option. How would a conscious prey fight against a more conscious/intellectual being who can dominate him both in strength and intelligence? What do you think?

they'd corral and farm only the most docile humans, while letting the rest roam free. Then they'd breed them selectively for docility, eventually domesticating them.

There's no reason to assume it couldn't happen. Maybe aliens/orcs visited Earth in their spaceships/orc magic portal, captured a few weak humans, took them back home and domesticated them. We'd never know. All we'd know is a few weak humans went lost/missing. Possibly centuries ago.
