redpill me on software engineering major

>> No.10770976

STEM jobs including software engineering will be replaced with automated AI once it can learn abstract concepts or at the vary least learn how to expand & contrast information.

Literally just specialized CompSci. Instead of working on code in general, you work on code in making consumer software.

That major shouldn't even exist.

I don't know about u but comparing to my wagecuck job learning even web dev is hard as fuck.
My brain doesn't seem to have enough working memory capacity to be able to follow long algorithms. When watching video of something being explained to me I still see spaghetti code and it feels like it makes less and less sense with every word the tutor says.

i srls blame society, the <100 iq should still have chance in life to make it. Kill normies, fuck everything, i don't care.

Computer Science... algorithms are basically math instructions

software engineering will be the last job taken by AI. you obviously haven’t programmed AI before.

its 2019 op teach yourself software unless you want to get a MD or a JD

Computer science and software engineering are two different things. The latter uses only the loosest form of the former. Also, if the extent of math in CS is only “math instructions,” you haven’t done enough math or theoretical CS to appreciate the math in CS. You read like you’re a freshman

I don’t think you know how to read at all m8. Like I said; algorithms

Everyone I've ever met who calls themselves a "software engineer" took computer science or some coding academy thing. I know some university engineering departments offer it but what's the point when every other programmer calls themselves a software engineer. There doesn't seem to be any penalty for using it inappropriately like you'd get for pretending to be a civil or electrical engineer.

I'm pretty sure we can all tell the implication you're trying to draw, bud.

Going the webdev route right now mate how fucked am I? I just don't want to be dirt poor anymore. Can you tell me how you started and how's your day-to-day life?

If you're autistic you're fucked, lots of normies in now who probably can code ok, but even if they're trash the small companies will hire them anyways. For the bigger companies your personality may not matter as much in some cases but you need to be pretty good.

I would start with python and comp sci. Mit have free courses you can find them on their page online. If you can handle it it's brighter future ahead with possibility to work as data analyst and alike. It seems that web dev is lowest tier of it. I still see computer science as superior mayor, I'm just not smart enough for it.

according to bls web dev makes 68k average, software engineers 100k.

why are you shitting up this place too ?

I've seen plenty of autistic people doing webdev in my country, so I think I'm safe. Also, I'm not autistic.
>>10773401
68k (hell, even half of it) is still better than nothing. I just want an intro gig to get out of the mud, it's not like I'll be a webdev forever.
>>10773409
I know, sorry, I usually go there for tech related stuff, but I figured since that anon already shat on the board I might as well finish the job.

Usually bland with lots of mandatory group projects. The software engineering courses are usually open to computer science students as well, except the CS students have more course flexibility than SENG. Only do software engineering if you need engineering accreditation or they offer a combined program with some other engineering discipline.
In practice software engineering has less to do with what you learn at school then how you conduct yourself in industry. But I imagine it is the same with most engineering disciplines. See,

1. It's not a real engineering degree
2. It's a low-quality CS degree that doesn't give you broad knowledge of CS
3. Most software engineers don't have degrees in software engineering
It's trash
