Sup Leute wie gehts euch?

So I'm an undergrad at a top university in Canada, but I want to go to Berlin and do an exchange year at TUB. Is the math program there high quality? Couldn't deal with engineering "math" bullshit I need that Dummit and Foote tier rigour in my life.

Berlin is good but the rent situation is crazy which is why many people avoid it.
Check out Bonn as well. Very highly regarded for mathematics.

McGill is a good school and the campus is quite pretty. I went out to Montreal a couple times partied then wandered around there during the day. Are you in math at TUB?

No, but I know people who are studying maths at grad level and they seem happy with the program. I’d also recommend Bonn as a second option. I know someone studying there as well, who had Scholze as a professor. It’s very rigorous and probably one of the best for maths in Germany (if not Europe).

You are lucky. TUB is a shitshow of an university, but the math department is one the best in the EU.

Meth department has some great professors and overall is widely respected in EU. Lectures are very good (but depends heavily on the professor).
If you're in the meth department at no point will you have contact with engineering meth.
TUB itself is an absolute shit show though.
Conclusion: if you like Berlin as a city (i.e. if you're degenerate) you should definitely come, the meth department is good (but TUB shit).

Berlin is a fucked up city yeah, but it’s pretty cool too. I guess I’m a demidegenerate of sorts. Enjoyed the city when I visited last summer and I have some friends there which is a plus. Happy to hear the math department is solid though, in Canada there are only a couple Unis with legit math programs. Figured it’s the same case in Germany.

Not him but yeah, adminstration is shit and very hard to deal with. Buildings are suboptimal. Can't even have intact blackboards sometimes.
It's like hell in summer (that's everywhere in germany though, 40 degrees and no air con).
Except the occasional administrative chaos u wont really have to deal with TUB though and the math is good, so you should be fine.
(the math building is also quite ugly, but huge and has its charms)

lol wow it‘s gonna be a pretty big step down for me in that respect. My campus is beautiful and the facilities top notch. Loads of rich fucks throwing money into the school constantly. Oh well though for all it’s faults if there’s good math that’s all that really matters to me.
