When I wake up in the morning, usually 9 or 10 AM my tinnitus is maskable by everyday sounds. But after a while around 3 or 4 PM it starts to spike and can become insufferable.

Why the fuck does this happen? My tinnitus is a high-pitched ringing and hissing sound. This started 7 months ago and it’s probably noise-induced.

Is there any relief to this? Any treatments? Drugs? Vitamins? Supplements? Fucking anything before I blow my brains out? I’d rather have fucking cancer than this.

>inb4 go to doctor
already did and said it’s chronic and there’s no cure

I also have tinnitus and my heartfelt advice is to quit being such a bitch about it. If it's a constant pitch you can train perfect relative pitch and gain perfect pitch by proxy.

You don’t understand. I don’t mind the noise. But this is fucking different. It’s debilitating. It’s like it hurts. It’s like the sound is painful.

Open mouth. Clench your teeth together like you're biting something hard. Hold it for 3 seconds. Repeat.

Does your tinnitus change? If so, its not tinnitus, but

Have T in both ears. Left ear I almost never hear it until I plug it. If I plug both ears I can’t fucking hear the left ear tinnitus. The right ear T is the most bothersome and yes it DOES get louder when I chew or clench my teeth. But I think it’s normal and doesn’t necessarily mean it’s TMJ. I do have TMJ too tho. I really believe I got it from listening to loud music through cheap earbuds. Thank you for the info but I still can’t be sure.

There's a 'famous' method for short term relief: https://quiet-ears.com/how-to-perform-the-reddit-tinnitus-cure-correctly/

This works by exhausting the muscles in the back of your head, but more importantly, it shows that there is a muscular-skeletal factor involved in tinnitus. After learning this I have self-experimented with trying to stretch, pop, relax parts of my neck/spine while I notice it and can find relief doing this, infrequently I find complete, but fleeting relief.

But doing this isn't long term, and is perhaps dangerous. I recommend, knowing this physical factor exists, to make an attempt to pursue Yoga, meditation, get a better PC setup, etc.

There is also reasonable reason to suspect that this game may help with pure tone tinnitus, but I suspect if it does it is more masking the type of issue stated above. https://plasticity.szynalski.com/tinnitus

The reddit method does not fucking work for me at all. What does that mean?

I would make sure you are doing it right, but assuming you are doing it right and its not working, I suggest trying it further down your spine. You can accomplish a similar result tapping the end of a pencil against yourself. If you find yourself involuntarily feeling the urge to 'straighten up' (your posture) do follow the urge.

Try experimenting. Is there something in your diet that might be making it spike? Sodas? Coffee? Maybe you smoke cigarettes? Sugar intake?

What happens if you take a nap? Does it delay the afternoon spike? Eliminate it?

What happens if you get drunk? I know, that's going a bit extreme, but it's all for science, doncha know.

>It’s like the sound is painful.
You need to dissociate the feeling. Pain is just signals to the brain like any other sense.

I experience huge fluctuations in my tinnitus as well. I have mild white noise tinnitus from noise exposure. I also speculate that a part of it is due to sensory issues associated with aspergers. My tinnitus gets more pronounced when I am tired (like in the afternoon). Doesn't have to be tired from noise, but being exposed to taxing sound stimuly probably is the quickest way for me to temporarily induce it. The sound doesn't need to be harmfully loud. Doesn't happen with all sounds. I agree with >>10738632 that it is worth investigating a little further into what triggers it. I have for example noticed that alcohol is a factor. If I go to a loud bar and drink a few beers I get a double effect. I notice it to some degree with coffee, high fat foods like peanuts and high sugar foods like candy too. I have dealt with this for many years now, and I have pretty much accepted that I will get these temporary outbreaks. It seems to be very stable, and my hearing does not seem to be affected (although I haven't had a hearing test in a few years now so I cannot be completely sure). I carry earplugs with me everywhere and shield myself from harmful noises as much as possible. In my childhood I had really bad hyperacusus and misphonia. It is not clear to me how much of that was associated with the tinnitus/hearing loss and what is associated with aspergers sensory issues, but this has got a lot better.

Tinnitis can be caused by eustachian tube dysfunction, which can be brought on by allergies or a cold. If you can't figure out what's causing your tinnitis, you could try seeing an ENT and getting your ears checked out.

Taking a powernap in a really quiet room gives me some relief. Sleeping in general.

Nocturnal acid reflux going into your mouth and Eustachian tube. When you sleep stomach acid and crap dissolved in it goes up into your ear.

Visit an ENT as soon as possible. Get a sleep study done. You're only incurring more damage.

Rare but you could go entirely deaf.

Not OP, but very interesting. I actually got sent to the ER last summer for having these pseudo-agina episodes while running. MD thought it was acid reflux and prescribed me some pills for that. This is pretty much the only symptom I satisfy on the list. I am >>10738767, and your post made me realize that the foods that I am listing might have something to do with acid reflux as well although I almost never have heartburn after meals.

This can also happen when you sleep on your back without a pillow (or with a really thin pillow). It's too bad that using a big pillow is bad for the neck unless you get one of these big stiff and gradually inclining ones.
